Paint, chemicals, fuels, asbestos-containing material, batteries, medical waste, propane cylinders and other hazardous or regulated items may not belong in a standard mixed-debris dumpster. Exact rules vary.
Why restrictions exist
Disposal facilities separate waste streams for worker safety, environmental compliance and processing requirements. A prohibited item can create rejection, cleanup or extra-fee issues.
Use the correct disposal channel
For household hazardous waste or other regulated materials, use the municipality or state's approved disposal guidance rather than placing the item in a standard roll-off container.
